Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
The artifact for standard 1.1 is the Technology Vision Paper written in ITEC 7410 - Technology Leadership & Vision in Schools. This vision was developed for Adairsville Middle School as an ideal vision of what technology integration should look like. The vision of this paper is aligned to the mission statement of Adairsville Middle School, which is to, “Educate all 21st century leaners through providing them experiences that will allow them to understand the past, learn in the present, and flourish in the future”.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 1.1, as it is a shared vision created with input from stakeholders at Adairsville Middle School as well as my personal vision for technology integration. Through creating this vision I was able to facilitate and develop a shared vision by participating on Adairsville Middle School’s Improvement Plan Committee. Serving on this committee allowed me to listen to the concerns and input of several stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and parents. In this vision paper, I discuss how technology leaders and administrators must have a plan in place for teachers to follow regarding the successful implementation of technology. It is the shared goal of AMS to “enhance student engagement through the use of technology.” Technology is a tool to help meet our 21st century students’ needs. By participating on the School Improvement Plan Committee and through writing this shared vision paper, I was able to facilitate the implementation of a shared vision.
After completing this artifact, I gained a solid understanding of how to develop and implement a shared vision. By participating on the School Improvement Plan Committee, interviewing my school principal, and writing this shared vision paper, I have learned how to work closely with stakeholders to develop and facilitate a shared vision in my school that incorporates achievable and realistic goals. Researching the ISTE standards allowed me to have an understanding of the foundation of a solid technology plan. To improve upon this artifact in the future, I would like to have more input from teachers and parents to have a more well rounded idea of the opinions regarding their vision for technology use at Adairsville Middle School. While I participated on a committee during the 2016-2017 school year that had teachers from all grade levels, there were only two parents present to represent the entire school population. It would be interesting to hear from more parents regarding their vision for utilizing technology in the school.
The work implemented to create this vision paper positively impacted school improvement and faculty development. While Adairsville Middle is a 1:1 school, many teachers were unaware of our goal and vision to “enhance student engagement through the use of technology”. By including this vision and goal in our School Improvement Plan for 2017, all teachers will be made aware that AMS has a shared goal that all stakeholders should be working toward achieving. This vision will hopefully lead the way for a future school climate of technology enriched lessons designed to enhance student engagement. This impact can already be assessed by administrator evaluations, surveys, and teacher input.
