6.2 Reflection
Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 6.2/ISTE 6c)
Artifact: Weebly Blog
At the beginning of the Instructional Technology program, I created a portfolio site using Weebly. Within this site I began a blog, in which I would create a post at the completion of each course as well as other various reflections throughout the program. The blog served as a platform to express my thoughts, opinions, and ideas regarding various educational technology topics. The blog served as a way to regularly evaluate and reflect on my professional practice and dispositions.
This artifact shows mastery of Standard 6.2 because it allowed me to regularly evaluate and reflect on my learning through a variety of posts. Some of the blog posts discussed my experiences with becoming a technology coach, facilitator, social studies teacher, and collaborating with colleagues. Not only did I create original blog posts, but I also commented on classmates’ blog posts as well. I always tried to show proper “netiquette” and replied to all the comments I received throughout the process. By continually reflecting and evaluating my professional practice and dispositions I can improve and strengthen my effectiveness as not only a teacher, but a technology facilitator. Blogging at the completion of each course allowed me to reflect and assess myself and make improvements as needed.
Through this artifact, I have learned the importance of reflecting and thinking about the occurrences of each class and how my professional practice has steadily improved. Through course readings, I have learned about best practices for effectively modeling and facilitating technology-infused learning experiences and how to reflect upon these experiences to improve my disposition. This artifact could be improved by simply including more blogs throughout each class, instead of primarily at the completion of a course. It would also be improved if I included more blog posts about my personal experiences with utilizing technology within my classroom with my students.
This artifact impacted student learning and school improvement. By reflecting on my practices as a technology facilitator, I have been able to better my methods and approaches help teachers within my building become more comfortable with integrating technology into their lessons. When teachers are utilizing technology more frequently, students are more actively engaged in the learning process and tend to achieve at higher levels. This impact can be assessed through surveying both teachers and students regarding technology use as well as their comfort level with technology.
