1.4 Diffusion of Innovations and Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact: Action/Evaluation Plan
The Action/Evaluation Plan was created to address the SWOT Analysis I conducted on Adairsville Middle School. This plan focused on the School Improvement Plan (SIP) goals set forth by Adairsville Middle School and how teachers can ensure these goals are addressed and how we can evaluate them. The primary focus of this plan was setting goals for Adairsville Middle School and utilizing technology to reach them.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 1.4 because in order to create the plan I had to research my school’s current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to determine where we were regarding technology integration. Utilizing our school’s SIP allowed me to research and understand areas where we were currently excelling in technology use and where we could improve. Based on this research, I was then able to recommend and initiate ways that would allow Adairsville Middle School to sustain the implementation of these ideas and strategies for technology improvements. These recommendations were implemented with trainings conducted by the technology coach, mentor teachers, and professional development days. By providing various trainings for teachers, the goals I recommended will be sustained through ongoing learning and development, thus managing the change process at Adairsville Middle School.
By completing this artifact, I learned how essential it is to create realistic goals that not only meet the needs of my school, but that these goals can be sustained for an ongoing period of time. When managing the change process in a school, it is essential that the goals created are realistic and that ongoing assessments of these goals occur, so that changes may be made as needed. The quality of this artifact could be enhanced if more teachers were surveyed from each subject area to see what specific things they would like to see improved regarding technology integration at Adairsville Middle School.
This artifact impacts school improvement by providing strategies that teachers can utilize to improve student learning through technology integration. Student learning will be improved as students begin using technology more frequently and efficiently in their content area classes each year. To ensure the change process continues, informal administrator walk throughs and surveys can be conducted yearly and a SWOT analysis can be conducted every two to three years.
