I have learned a great deal of useful information in this course. I honestly wish KSU offered a second portion of this class, because there is still so much I want to learn and explore regarding web 2.0 tools. I have been able to incorporate a few of the tools into my classes this semester, and look forward to continuing to use them throughout the year.
The one that I have found most useful for my students to use in classes this year is Padlet. It really is one of the easiest and most engaging ways for students to quickly write a response and for me to check their understanding on something. They like that they are using the computers so they are more engaged, but I am still getting them to think about a topic. It really is a win win! The tool that I have found most useful for my productivity is Socrative. I can assign short quizzes efficiently. Students like taking their quizzes online, and I like the fact that it is graded quickly and provides students with feedback.
I have also begun to set up a class website using Weebly. I have not started using it in my classes yet, but I plan on incorporating it more next year. I plan on uploading tutorial videos, showing off student work, and keeping a calendar of what we are doing in classes.
Overall, I have learned how to use a variety of tools to engage my students on a much deeper level. It is sometimes challenging to get 8th graders interested in social studies, so any time I can find something that engages them and enhances their learning experience, I am all for it. ITEC 7430 has truly been a very beneficial class.
