I have learned a lot about what goes into being a technology leader through the completion of ITEC 7410. A great deal of effort goes into creating a school's vision and ensuring the vision is brought to life. I have had the opportunity to serve on my school's SIP committee the past two years, which has also shown me how much planning and work goes into creating this plan. While there is always room for improvement, my school does a wonderful job including technology in the overall vision of the school and utilizing our 1:1 technology environment to reach specific goals.
Projects such as the Shared Vision Paper, SWOT Analysis, and the Action/ Evaluation Plan allowed me to break down each step in the school improvement process. From deciding what direction the school should be going in, how we are currently performing, and what methods we need to use to reach our goal, each step was carefully thought out and examined. Creighton (2003) states, “To really influence reform in schools, technology leaders must stay focused on the individual needs of local teachers and students…” (p.5). It is important for technology leaders to implement a technology plan that suits the needs of the school, teachers, and students, as not all schools are the same. It is important for technology leaders to have a clear idea of what a school's goals are and to have specific ideas in mind of how to achieve these goals and set a clear vision.
Technology leaders must stay up-to-date on current technology trends and ideas. An RSS feed provides readers with automatic access to specific articles according to which blogs and sites in which the reader is interested. Using an RSS feed makes it easy and more efficient to stay current on technology trends, and I have found many interesting articles through my RSS feed.
