Throughout ITEC 7480 (Introduction to Online Learning), I have learned a great deal about becoming an effective online educator. On the iNACOL pre-assessment, I received a score of 70%. This was expected as I had never taught an online course, but I do teach in a 1:1 environment. I was confident that I would steadily improve over the course of the semester. On the post-assessment, I raised my score to 92%. I am pleased with how far I have come regarding my competency as an online teacher and I know my knowledge will continue to improve as I begin to implement online courses in the future.
During this course I created a variety of useful artifacts such as an online/blended course syllabus, a six week unit plan, and a one-week learning module. I learned a great deal about what components are necessary in order to create a high-quality, engaging online lesson. I look forward to continuing to develop these artifacts as I continue on through the Online Teaching Endorsement classes.
I plan on sharing the knowledge gained in this course with my colleagues so that they too will begin to feel confident in creating blended/online activities and lessons. The future of our education is headed in the direction of online teaching and learning, and being in a 1:1 environment already, it is crucial that teachers understand the importance of online learning. I feel it is inevitable that all teachers will need to be proficient in teaching in either a blended or fully online format, and this course has given me the skills necessary to begin to do that effectively.
